Dad's Against Dirty Air, was a climate psychology experiment, that, over 20 years, issued over 150,000 pledge cards, interviewed 1000's of people and 100's of politicians and bureaucratic leaders.
Getting school buses to turn off engines when parked on school property was supported by good people and drivers, but the bureaucracy and unions and lobby and political ego's ignored the parents and eventually wore down and a defunded DADA and other groups faded away.
"Challenging status quo systems that are well funded and own the bylaws and laws, is a much more difficult action than anticipated".
In an upcoming book "The DADA Story - the real reason we are NOT solving climate" DADA and other defunded and shutdown DO GOODERS tell their stories.A pregnant woman standing at a city bus terminal in 1998, is nauseated from the diesel fumes and is forced, against her will and freedoms to live in a clean and healthy and safe environment, to inhale 40 breathes per minute, for 10 minutes each day for 9 months.
28 years later, THAT BABY, that was microdosed in the womb, is grown up and standing at the same bus terminal her mother did 28 years ago. The buses are STILL IDLING and polluting and she is nauseated and has a headache and is worried about the KNOWN CARCINOGENS she is inhaling and how awful it feel that she feels she has no rights or freedoms to breath clean air.Think about it.
Is this what our cities deem a CLIMATE EMERGENCY DECLARATION that is working?
A ZERO EMISSIONS by 2050 mandate that cannot even turn off engines today, when equipment and vehicles are not even in use? or parked? Unoccupied?The baby girl in the womb is born, goes to a school and told to stand in front of idling school buses, complaining of headaches each day when she goes home.
DADA asks bus drivers to turn off engines, and VOILA! A week later, parents tell that the headaches vanished! The nausea, gone! A healthy and happy child is singing and dancing and is learning with a clear headed focus on school work, validated by research studies that show that clean air provides clarity of concentration and even better grades.The good news is that a NEW NGO of the future will be inspiring a new generation of public service managers that will actually ask a city bus driver if he can turn off they engine.
